College application process

Today in class we listened to a guest speaker who spoke to you about the college application process...

  • Have you thought about your personal statement - avoid politics and religion, what is it about you that will make a reader want to finish your essay? What makes you unique?
  • We discussed the common application and why it is not to your benefit to do it
  • visit college and university websites - go to the admission page - look at requirements and essay questions
  • Take the SAT and be prepared with at least 4 schools to send scores to
  • Visit schools
  • Does the school you'd like to go to require special tests or classes?
  • Safe schools - a school that is a definite yes - everyone should apply to CUNY
  • Reach schools - ones you want to go to, that may be a little or far above where your transcript and scores offer you?
  • 2950 - UAPC Brooklyn - CUNY code for sending your SAT schools
  • http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/national-search - top colleges

More task 4 help... and practice

"It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues. "
Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)
Analyze the quote... agree or disagree

and select 2 novels or pieces of lit that support your analysis...

remember analysis provides deep, probing thought... not just summary.

analysis: a philosophical method of exhibiting complex concepts or propositions as compounds or functions of more basic ones.

summary: a comprehensive and usually brief abstract, recapitulation, or compendium of previously stated facts or statements
