College application process

Today in class we listened to a guest speaker who spoke to you about the college application process...


  • Have you thought about your personal statement - avoid politics and religion, what is it about you that will make a reader want to finish your essay? What makes you unique?
  • We discussed the common application and why it is not to your benefit to do it
  • visit college and university websites - go to the admission page - look at requirements and essay questions
  • Take the SAT and be prepared with at least 4 schools to send scores to
  • Visit schools
  • Does the school you'd like to go to require special tests or classes?
  • Safe schools - a school that is a definite yes - everyone should apply to CUNY
  • Reach schools - ones you want to go to, that may be a little or far above where your transcript and scores offer you?
