2 Saturday Regent Review Sessions

On Saturdays May 9 and May 23rd, Ms. Destefano and I will be running ELA Regent review sessions at school.

The sessions will run 9-12.

We plan on going over all tasks and providing extra practice in completing the multiple choice, test stamina and readiness, and writing more effective essay.

Please plan on attending.

English Regents Midterm

Folks, many of you haven't turned in your consent forms for your practice regents. Please have your parents email me or turn in your consent. You will not be able to take the test on Tuesday 1/27 and Wed. 1/28 if you don't turn one in.

English Regent Midterm

Please make sure to have your parents either email me or send in the consent form for Regents week.

The exam will not only be serving as a barometer for where you are now, but it will count as a midterm.

The dates are Tuesday, 1/27 8:00-11:00 am for tasks 1 ad 2 and Wednesday, 1/28 8:00-11:00 for tasks 3 and 4

You will be dismissed when you are done taking the exam.

Please come prepared with 2 working pens in either blue or black ink. You must wear a uniform.

If you cannot make these dates (both of them) - you will need to make them up on 2 saturdays in February.

Not all of you have given in your consent forms yet. Please do so.

General Observations about Baseline Regents Essays

As a class, we are really going to have to work on development. Most of you get the idea of what you are supposed to be doing and also comprehend whatever you read as evidenced by your multiple choice answers. The real sticking point seems to be taking those 3-4 scores and bringing them a little higher by really utilizing the texts and tasks to develop your ideas.

A secondary issue that I noticed a lot of was organizational issues.

I'm going to pose that we start here when you all consider revision...

Your initial scores will stick until you revise....

I would like to conference with everyone about their papers. Hopefully this week that will happen.

Use the task to help organize what must get done... then prioritize the information that you have gathered... then write... and don't just mention, but use the text to support.

Task 1 - baseline study

Today in class each of you took a task 1 with little or no knowledge of what a task 1 was like of the Regent.

What skills are needed to do well on this task? Post to this blog entry with a comment... think in terms of what the directions were asking you to do.

HW for tonight is to begin work keeping your independent reading logs in your sourcebook... make sure to write the title, author, pages read, date, summary of reading and some kind of connection you can make to the pages.
