Midterm reflections

I was contemplating how I wanted to do this since the 6 week mark has already passed for the second trimester...

Here is what I decided:

I'd like each of you to email me the answer to the following questions:

  1. How do you honestly feel you are doing in the class specifically using evidence from your work to support your thoughts? (Reference specific assignments and/or activities to show your understanding of specific skills and/or standards)
  2. What are you doing to contribute to the classroom community? (again be specific - you help your classmates or you are always prepared, etc)
  3. What do you need to continue working on? Be specific -
  4. How can I help you work on your perceived weaknesses on your standards?
  5. What have you learned so far this year? Be specific...
  6. What have you improved? (be specific)
  7. What are some goals you have for this class by the end of this trimester? the end of the year?
  8. Have you made an attempt to come for extra help if needed?
  9. Do you check the blog every day? how often?
  10. What do you use the blog for? is it useful? explain

Email your answers to me at msackstein@yahoo.com - put midterm reflection as your subject

SIMILE:'Over her shoulder she spit out words to us like rotten pieces of apples'.-The Bluest Eye pg.107
*-I think this works very good because the author uses very good visulas besides the use of asimile. She says that somebody is just spewing out words like you would spit out a rotten apple if it were in you. That is why this works

1. I feel that I am doing ok. But not my best. I could definitely be doing better if i listened better and made sure Istayed on task. And I have to be a little more detailed and accurate on the task in my assignments. 2. I thiink my contributions to the classroom is me raising my hand in class. When everybody participates it makes the lesson go faster and easier and it also helps the students who have trouble understanding. Ithink I;m also good with helpng my tablemates. I try to help anybody in my group who is hab=ving trouble with the work, needs materials, or just needs that extra push. I believe if we all try to aid each other in suceeding we can obtain a very succesful and rewarding learning environment!
3. I think the main thing I need to continue working on is my essays. I strongly need to develop them more. And not just so=imply try to answer the question. I think reading the examples of the midterm essays definitely helped and will help me in this department. 4. The way that I can be helped is maybe putting examples on my paper or giving me some strategies. 5. This year I have learned quite a few things. One thing is new literary elements. For instance I never know there was a gothic style of writing, I just thought it was the people lol! But learning this really helped me in how I read certain books or view certain movies. I also learned abouut the different types of essays on the regents. The critical lens, listening activity, the combined essay, and the regular one! 6. I think I improved in my independent reading assignments. I think Im putting more detail into them and try to make them a little more lengthy. I hope to get a 100 on it one day. 7. My definite goal for the ennd of this trimester is getting a b in ths class. Im really pushing myself. Because over the years English has been one of my favorite and best classes. An I refuse to take a c I rather work for that B AND A! My goal for the end of this year is to pass the regents. Thats my main goal. As you said Ms. Sacksein nobody wants to take a 6 hour exam twice. 8. No I havent made an attempt for extra help. But if I do need it I will not hesitate to ask. 9, I only check the blog when assignments are giveen. So I can make sure there done and get the best grade possible. And the blog is very useful because it is a good alternative to spending more time writing answers out. And it also has faster feedback!!!

1. I think I am doing decent. If I was more on top of my work and reading the books and checking the blog daily and doing the blog work, I would be much happier with myself and my grades.
2. When we have group discussions I usually participate pretty good, and when we do group work I put a good amount of work into it.
3. I need to continue working on a lot of stuff. Like researching for the Harlem Renaissance project, make up many blog assignments, and The Bluest Eye essay.
4. You can help me by me wanting to help myself and come early for help or stay after school.
5. I have learned to much to type.
6. I think I have improved on my behavior mostly and my attention spand. I just need to work on finish pieces that I start and never finish.
7. My goals are to not fail at all and pass every trimester, and be able to annotate and interpret without having trouble.
8. I have not come for extra help because I am lazy.
9. I honestly never check the blog at home. I check it rarely when I am in class or school.
10. When I go on the blog, I use it to catch up on missing work or to post assignments when I do do them.
